MERMAIDS, lobsters and even characters from Scooby Doo have helped raised more than £700 for charity.

Youngsters at Knox Academy ditched their school uniforms for bright costumes and characters on Friday.

Sue Cook, headteacher at the Haddington secondary school, said it was “lovely” to see pupils dressed up.

She added: “The theme of Children in Need this year is ‘Together’, and today we have certainly showed that spirit of community in coming together, having fun and raising awareness of this charity. Thank you to all who donated money to this amazing cause as this will make a difference to so many lives.”

On Monday, the headteacher revealed that the youngsters had collected a total of £780.

She said: “A huge thank you to all who donated or baked. Thanks to our S6 for organising.”
