A BODY has been discovered at a popular county beach car park following a car blaze.

Police were called to Longniddry Bents car park No.3 at 3.20pm today amid reports of a vehicle on fire.

Police and fire services were still on scene at about 5.30pm and a spokesperson later confirmed a body had been found inside the car.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said : “Officers received reports of a car on fire within car park three at Longniddry Bents at around 3.20pm on Wednesday, November 24, 2021. A body was discovered within the car and enquiries are at an early stage.”

East Lothian Council has advised residents to stay away from the car park for the remainder of the evening and through tomorrow.

A statement on the local authority’s social media pages said: “Due to an ongoing police incident, the car park at Longniddry Bents No. 3 is currently closed and is expected to remain so through tomorrow (Thursday).”
