A NORTH Berwick teenager is braving the shave for charity this week – and says it’s “just another hairstyle”!

Isla Kinniburgh, 15, will be shaving off all her hair to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The North Berwick High School pupil said: “This is the first time I’ve shaved my head and the first time I’ve done fundraising for charity as well.

“It’s always been something I wanted to do, kind of like a bucket list, and a lot of people say a sense of freedom comes with it; having a shaved head, you have no hair to hide behind.

“That’s you. There’s nothing else there, you can’t cover up your ears or your neck or anything like that.

“I’ve dyed my hair a few times, so it’s just another hairstyle!”

And Isla is keen to support cancer patients, saying so many people are affected by the disease.

She said: “They’ve been dealt a hand of cards which is just horrific.

“I have the choice to shave my head but not everybody does.”

But this isn’t the first time Isla has sacrificed her hair for charity – last year, she cut her long locks and donated them to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children who have lost their hair through illness.

And Isla says that her mum and dad have no problem with her losing all her hair.

She said: “Both of my parents are very proud of me for raising the money and are proud of how brave I am to do this whilst being in high school.”

The Gilsland estate resident has already raised £460 of her £500 target. To donate, go to bravetheshave.macmillan.org.uk/shavers/isla-kinniburgh
