TWO former Guides were presented with ‘thank you’ badges after clocking up 90 years of service to Musselburgh Trefoil Guild between them.

Margaret Craigie and Frances Monaghan, from Musselburgh, have both been members of the guild – which offers social opportunities and supports Girlguiding – for 45 years, having joined in 1976.

They received their badges from Lorraine Dickson, East Lothian County Commissioner, at a presentation at the Fisherrow Centre on South Street where the guild meets. Afterwards, a ‘silhouette’ quiz was enjoyed, followed by cake and tea.

The Trefoil Guild, which is open to women and men over the age of 18, also supports Scouting.

Members meet with friends, develop interests, tackle new challenges, enjoy outings and holidays together. They help Girlguiding at district, division, county, region, UK and international level.

Margaret Craigie joined the Brownies in Musselburgh in 1946 and went on to become a Guide. She became a Brownie Guider in the 3rd Musselburgh Brownies in the 1960s.

Frances was a Brownie and Guide in Campbeltown. In Musselburgh, she was an adult helper with the 9th Musselburgh Brownie pack.

Frances said that when she moved to Musselburgh after she married, and as a new mum, she found friendship with the guild, which had a membership of nearly 70 in the 1970s. She also enjoyed helping to arrange outings and Christmas meals over the years.
