A FATHER-OF-FIVE with terminal cancer has donated £400 of fundraising money to help two cancer charities.
Johnnie Meechan, 44, of Tranent, was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour, also called NET cancer, in his liver and stomach six years ago.
The husband and father has blogged about ‘Johnnie’s Journey’ and shared the story of his battle with the disease on social media, raising thousands of pounds in the last few years.
Last Tuesday, he donated £200 in the name of Amanda Verrecchia to Make 2nds Count.
The charity funds medical research and supports programmes that contribute to improving quality of life for secondary breast cancer patients.
Johnnie donated a further £200 in the name of Mark Gray to Maggie’s Centre on Monday.
He said in a statement: “We are delighted to offer our support to Mark Gray who, like Amanda before him, decided he would rather we supported a cause who have been helping him through his own fight with cancer.
“Join us in keeping this cancer warrior in your thoughts.
“It amazes me just how many people under extreme adversity would still rather help others than themselves.”
Maggie’s Centres are a network of drop-in centres across the UK which aim to help anyone who has been affected by cancer.
The centres provide a caring environment that can provide support, information and practical advice for those battling the disease.
