A 76-YEAR-OLD man has been placed on the sex offenders’ register after he was found guilty of historic attacks on two schoolgirls.

William Kerr was found to have used lewd and libidinous practices towards a female child while she was aged seven and 12.

Kerr, currently of Monks Muir Park, near Haddington, took hold of the child’s hand and placed it on his groin. He also undressed and exposed himself to the child while making sexually explicit comments at an address in West Barns between January 1, 1971, and December 30, 1975.

Kerr was also found guilty of using lewd and libidinous practices towards a second child by inducing her to place her hand on his groin over his clothing at the same address between the same dates.

The pensioner denied the allegations but was found guilty following a trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court earlier this year.

Sheriff Fiona Tait had deferred sentence to last Wednesday for reports to be prepared. The sheriff sentenced Kerr to a three-year probation order and placed him on the sex offenders’ register for the same term.
