A GOLF event has raised about £4,000 for projects throughout Haddington and further afield.

Haddington Golf Club saw 44 two-person teams battle it out in Rotary Haddington’s annual competition.

Coming out on top were the Ennerdale team of Graham Alexander and David Haire with a score of 49 – one better than Philip Gaskell and Gordon Drummond, who led Mark Coke and Dennis Rourke by one further point.

The competition, held last month, was contested in superb weather, with not a drop of rain, and light winds.

Stableford scoring, which involves scoring points based on the number of shots taken on each hole, was used. The best ball between the pair counted for the overall total.

The system is used so that, even if a player has one or two poor holes, the team can still be on for a good score if the other holes are negotiated well.

The top three teams were presented with vouchers for the pro shop – £75 each for the winners, £50 each for second, and £25 each for third.

A spokesperson for Rotary Haddington said: “We would like to thank our major sponsors Edinburgh Risk Management (General) Ltd, Allan McDougall Solicitors and Rathbone Investment Management for their very generous support of this year’s competition; Prentice of Haddington, who sponsored the ‘nearest the pin’ malt whisky prizes for each hole; and Blooming Haddington, who sponsored the first three holes. Other hole sponsors were ERG Financial Planning, Tustain Motors, The Malt Kiln and Ogilvies of Haddington Ltd.

“Many raffle prizes were donated by members and friends of our club and there was a silent auction for three rounds of golf at different East Lothian courses.

“We would also like to thank Haddington Golf Club for their hospitality and support.

“Their ground and catering staff made a great contribution to the success of the event.”

Plans are already being drawn up to see the event return next year.
