IT WAS “cakearama” at Musselburgh Sports Centre as avid bakers created a host of treats for a coffee morning and bake sale in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The event was organised by leisure assistants Helen Johnston and Lorna Craig, who, along with colleagues and family members, whipped up everything from cupcakes and muffins to fruit loaves and truffles.

A spokesperson for enjoyleisure, which operates the sports centre, said: “A massive thank you also goes to Tunnock’s for their generous donation of tea cakes and cream wafers.”

Additional fundraising activities included team quizzes, colleague donations, and enjoyleisure chief executive and Heart of Midlothian FC supporter Bill Axon agreeing to be kitted out in rival football team Hibernian FC’s strip – but only after colleagues had dipped into their pockets for Macmillan first.

In total, £335 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support – a cause enjoyleisure is close to due to its partnership under the Macmillan Move More initiative.

Move More East Lothian is a physical activity programme designed for people living with and beyond cancer.

Fully trained exercise instructors and volunteers facilitate a range of activities, tailored for the participants.

The spokesperson added: “Many people who have gone through the programme tell us that it helps them to feel more like their old self.”

As well as being referred to the programme via their GP, individuals can also self-refer themselves.
