A SECTION of the A1 will be closed next Thursday (October 14) to allow 400 metres of carriageway to be resurfaced.

BEAR Scotland will work on the stretch of road between Oaktree and Gladsmuir junctions. The work will take place during the night and will result in the closure of the westbound carriageway between the two junctions between 7.30pm and 6am the following morning.

A diversion route, taking motorists onto the A199, will be signposted between the two junctions and motorists travelling east will not be affected.

Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s south east network manager, explained the importance of the works.

He said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A1 and will greatly improve the experience for motorists.”
