THE search for a new minister at Tranent Parish Church looks to be over.
Mrs Katherine Taylor, locum minister at North Leith Parish Church, preached before the Tranent congregation as sole nominee on Sunday.
Following the service, church members voted 59 to 3 that she should be appointed to succeed the Rev Erica Wishart, who left last year.
Mrs Taylor later contacted the church’s interim moderator to accept the invitation to be the new minister, which will be her first charge. She trained for the ministry after a career in the legal profession.
The decision to call her to Tranent now goes to Lothian Presbytery.
If it upholds the appointment, a date will be set for Mrs Taylor’s ordination and induction.
The Rev Malcolm Muir has been locum minister at Tranent and will continue in the role for the time being.
A statement on the church’s Facebook page said: “We are all absolutely delighted and cannot wait to welcome Katherine and the family into the Tranent community.”
