PART of the A1 near Tranent was closed following a vehicle fire earlier this morning (Wednesday).

Traffic Scotland shared the news at 10.22am with the affected vehicle in lane one at the end of the westbound (northbound) onslip at the Bankton junction near the town and Meadowmill.

A few minutes later the A1 was completely closed northbound. Traffic was being diverted through Tranent.

The emergency services were also on scene.

Lane two was reopened a short time later with lane one closed for about two hours but both lanes are now open and running as normal.

Traffic was heavy and there were some queues on approach but is now said to be flowing well.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.11am on Wednesday (August 18) to reports of a car on fire at the A1 westbound near to Meadowmill and Tranent.

“Operations Control mobilised two appliances and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting one vehicle.

“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
