IT IS CONCERNING that we are still seeing a rise in the number of positive cases in 18-29-year-olds, coupled with the fact vaccination uptake in this category is lower than in the rest. If you are in this category or know anyone who is that may be unsure or want to know more about the vaccine, please go along to a drop-in clinic and have a chat with one of the experienced vaccinators about concerns.

There is a lot of misinformation and, although this is being actively rebuked, I know it can easily influence people’s views or cause uncertainty on getting the vaccine. Please be wary of any misinformation on the internet.

I was pleased to hear that the appeal for the drive-thru which McDonald’s wished to construct in the Tesco car park in Musselburgh has been decisively rejected by the Government Reporter. I strongly objected to this proposal. It was clear from the go-ahead that this proposal was not popular amongst local constituents.

I’m glad that the voices of the Musselburgh residents have been heard and the right decision made. My thanks to all those individuals and groups who campaigned successfully to ensure it did not happen. Community power works!

Every year, we hear of people and animals injured by irresponsible use of fireworks or fires accidentally started.

The Scottish Government is giving you the chance to have your say in a consultation on how fireworks can be sold and used in Scotland and the use of pyrotechnic devices. I would encourage you to take part by visiting the Scottish Government website and making your views known before August 15.

I am deeply saddened at the tragic loss of life and suffering that the people of Germany and China have been experiencing as a result of the recent severe flooding. It is a dreadful situation which will take a long time to recover and rebuild from. I would like to express my deepest condolences and sympathy to all those affected and their families.
