A PRESTONPANS man who caused glass to enter the eye of a young child when he smashed mirrors and panels during an angry outburst has been placed on a community payback order.

Liam Skinner, 31, culpably and recklessly broke doors and glass panels during an angry exchange at a home in the Pilton area of Edinburgh last May.

During the incident, Skinner caused some of the broken glass to land on his partner, causing her injury.

The disturbance also saw shards of glass enter the eye of a child who was present at the property to their severe injury.

Skinner pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court earlier this year and sentence had been deferred to last Thursday.

He appeared back in the dock, where Sheriff Nigel Ross handed down a 12-month community payback order.

Skinner, of Pypers Wynd, was ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work in the community and placed on a supervision order for one year.

Solicitor Paul Dunn previously said that the incident had occurred due to his client struggling to “cope with his anger” and that he had “difficulty expressing” himself.

The lawyer added that Skinner usually “deals with his anger through exercise” but, with the gyms closed last year due to lockdown, he had not been able to do that.

Skinner pleaded guilty to culpably and recklessly breaking doors, glass panels and mirrors, which caused broken glass to land on his partner, injuring her, and to the danger of a young child.

His actions also caused broken glass to enter the eye of a child to their severe injury at an address in Pilton, Edinburgh, on May 9 last year.
