ENVIRONMENTALLY conscious residents keen to keep East Lothian’s coastline clean can take part in litter picks organised by the Scottish Seabird Centre.
The North Berwick-based marine and wildlife charity is running beach clean Fridays each week until September 24.
Due to coronavirus restrictions, group beach cleans cannot be carried out but a spokesperson for the Seabird Centre said that “marine wildlife still needs your help”.
People can borrow a beach clean kit from the centre every Friday until the last Friday of September between 10am and 4pm.
The kit includes a litter picker, rubbish bag and information on safety and wildlife. It is available on a first come first served basis.
People are asked to bring their own gloves, preferably thick gardening gloves, appropriate outdoor clothing and a face covering for when they collect and return their kit, which has to be returned, alongside the litter collected, to the Seabird Centre.
After it has been returned, the kit will be cleaned, ready to be used again. The litter collected will also be disposed of – recycled where possible.
