A LONG-RUNNING putting competition in North Berwick will not take place in 2021 as it delays its centenary celebrations for another year.

The Crawford and Calder Cups are organised by North Berwick Community Council’s secretary Kathryn Smith.

The Crawford Cup is a competition for children and the Calder Cup for adults.

Last year’s competition was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic and a decision was made to not hold an event this year due to uncertainty and the changing of restrictions.

The event typically takes place over two days, with qualifying on a Tuesday, then the finals on a Thursday – the Crawford Cup final in the morning and Calder Cup in the evening, it was supposed to be held this week with the final to take place today (Thursday).

Kathryn said: “It is disappointing that we have decided not to hold the event again this year but, with the uncertainty and ever-changing regulations, we thought it best not to.

"It was a decision not taken lightly, particularly as we missed celebrating the centenary last year.

"Let’s hope we can have a belated celebration next year.”
