FIREFIGHTERS from throughout the county were called out to a blaze on the outskirts of Tranent late last night (Thursday).

Crews from Musselburgh, Newcraighall and North Berwick joined colleagues in Tranent after being alerted to reports of a building on fire at Kingslaw Business Park near Steading View and Tranent's Aldi store shortly before 11pm.

A metal storage container caught alight, with the fire spreading to two other similar containers nearby.

The containers are not owned by anyone who works at or owns businesses on the premises.

They are found in the north-eastern corner of the business park near Cut Price Timber and other storage containers.

Damage only affected the containers with the other nearby businesses unaffected.

Investigations and a clean-up operation are currently under way.

Firefighters spent nearly three hours on the site, working into the early hours of the morning.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “Operations Control mobilised four appliances and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting a number of metal containers within a building.

“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”

Robert Benn, a director at Cut Price Timber, said that had the fire looked worse than it actually was and, on closer inspection, was a "relatively small fire".

He also praised the fire crews and all of their efforts to contain the fire and keep everyone safe, saying he wanted to praise them and the work they put in "as much as possible".

He added: "We were delighted with the service and it made you realise how important it is to pick up the phone when you see a fire and to not abuse the system.

"We're close here and like friends and family. We're going to work together to try and get it cleaned up.

"Obviously everyone is upset, it could always be us."

Despite the fire, all the businesses at the business park are trading as normal.
