THE number of Covid-19 cases recorded in East Lothian in one week has passed 700 with all but one part of the county seeing a seven-day positive rate per 100,000 people higher than 200.

The latest figures from Public Health Scotland show that between June 20 and 26, 708 Covid-19 cases were recorded in East Lothian. This is an increase of 40 from the numbers reported yesterday (Monday).

These latest figures mean East Lothian’s seven-day positive rate is now 661.1. The test positivity rate is 11.1 per cent.

Leading the way with the highest figures in Scotland is Dundee City with a seven-day positive rate per 100,000 people of 713.9. Third is Midlothian with 621.9 with Edinburgh following at 573.

Areas of concern

The current areas of concern are listed below, in order of the number of coronavirus cases, from highest to lowest. Where two places have the same number of cases, the one with the lower population (and therefore the higher infection rate) is listed first:

  • Musselburgh South – 65 cases, seven-day positive rate of 1,414.9
  • Cockenzie – 63 cases, seven-day positive rate of 1,106.4
  • Tranent North – 53 cases, seven-day positive rate of 776.3
  • Prestonpans West – 44 cases, seven-day positive rate of 776.6
  • Musselburgh East – 43 cases, seven-day positive rate of 897.9
  • Musselburgh North – 42 cases, seven-day positive rate of 863.3
  • Musselburgh West – 36 cases, seven-day positive rate of 1,221.6
  • Tranent South – 34 cases, seven-day positive rate of 564.5
  • Dunbar East – 33 cases, seven-day positive rate of 708
  • Dunbar West – 30 cases, seven-day positive rate of 547.9
  • Prestonpans East – 28 cases, seven-day positive rate of 653.6
  • Longniddry and Aberlady – 23 cases, seven-day positive rate of 402.4
  • Ormiston – 21 cases, seven-day positive rate of 707.5
  • Pinkie Braes – 20 cases, seven-day positive rate of 847.5
  • East Linton and Rural – 20 cases, seven-day positive rate of 366.2
  • Haddington North – 15 cases, seven-day positive rate of 340.6
  • North Berwick South – 15 cases, seven-day positive rate of 319.6

  • Haddington South – 13 cases, seven-day positive rate of 272.1
  • Gullane and Drem – 11 cases, seven-day positive rate of 249.7

Deaths

The number of deaths from Covid-19 in the county remains unchanged.

The last recorded death was on March 27.

Vaccine

In East Lothian, 75,555 people have received their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine. This equals 88.6 per cent of the population.

A total of 55,974 people have received their second dose, or 65.6 per cent of the population.

All of the county’s residents over the age of 55 have received at least one dose of a vaccine.

For 50-54-year-olds, 96 per cent have received at least one dose. The number is 89.1 per cent for 40-49-year-olds, 83.6 per cent for 30-39-year-olds, and 49.4 per cent for 18-29-year-olds.

Across Scotland

In Scotland there were 3,118 newly reported cases of Covid-19 in the latest 24-hour period.

There was one new death reported, with 20 people currently in intensive care and 215 in hospital.
