MAKING Christmas cards for isolated people in her local community led to a North Berwick schoolgirl being nominated for a Young Scot Award.

Lottie MacRobert-Ross was nominated by the Bass Rock Community Group for the initiative she undertook at the end of last year.

The Law Primary School P7 pupil and her school friends made the cards and gave them to those who were alone in the community.

Lottie, 11, did not win her category but did receive a certificate of commendation for her initiative.

The cards were delivered alongside 130 origami boxes made by the Bass Rock Community Group, filled with homemade treats.

They were delivered by North Berwick Community Connections volunteers to 95 of its members and by the town’s day centre to 25 members.

Liz Martin, from the Bass Rock Community Group, said: “Lottie’s initiative and determination, with the support of her class teacher Marie-Louise Santini and fellow pupils, really shows how young people are concerned about others and can make things happen.

“The group are incredibly grateful to all those involved and immensely proud of Lottie and her award.”

The group was formed from members of the town’s now-wound-down lockdown resilience group.
