A NUMBER of positive coronavirus cases at schools across the county have been confirmed.

Since June 8, positive cases have been identified at Sanderson’s Wynd Primary School, Loretto RC Primary School, Preston Lodge High School, Longniddry Primary School, Windygoul Primary School, Dunbar Primary School, Humbie Primary School, Knox Academy, Haddington Primary School, St Gabriel’s Primary School and Ross High School.

An East Lothian Council spokesperson said that the number of recent confirmed Covid-19 cases among people in county schools reflected the increase of virus prevalence in East Lothian.

All students who have been in close contact with the confirmed cases have been identified, contacted and advised to stay at home, isolate and get tested.

The spokesperson said: “Schools continue to have multiple control measures in place against Covid-19, supported with enhanced cleaning regimes and regular testing of staff, to limit any risk of onwards transmission with the school environment.

“If a child has not been advised that they are a close contact and remain well, they can continue to attend school as per the school’s current arrangements.

“While good progress is being made with the vaccination programme, the virus continues to present a risk which is why the council is continuing to highlight the importance of following national health advice and co-operation with school Covid testing arrangements.”

“There are a number of ways in which people, with no symptoms, can get tested in East Lothian,” the spokesperson added. “Options include our testing facility at the former Stoneyhill Community Centre in Musselburgh or at one of the mobile testing units being deployed around local communities.

“Anyone who has symptoms of Covid-19 – the most common of which are a continuous cough, fever/high temperature, loss of/change in sense of smell or taste – can access testing by contacting NHS Inform.”

Test kits can also be delivered to homes and pharmacies in the county.
