A PRESTONPANS after-school club has been left counting the cost after vandals caused hundreds of pounds' worth of damage to their West Loan premises last night.

It is alleged that a group of four teenagers 'set up a base' using the club's gazebo, destroyed archery sets, wrecked gymnastics mats and smashed children's toys in a rampage yesterday evening (Wednesday).

The wrecking spree at the children's club, on the grounds of Preston Tower Primary School, has left hundreds of pounds' worth of damage.

An eyewitness, who caught the vandalism on camera, called the police at about 9pm yesterday evening to report the teenagers.

Carole Galloway, Prestonpans After School Club general manager, said: "A local resident has CCTV footage of the incident.

"She called the police last night to alert them to it but apparently there were no police officers available to come out and do anything about it.

"We know from the description that it was four teenagers involved, they broke into three sheds, they set up a gazebo as a base, broke numerous children's toys, they ripped our greenhouse.

"They have gone on a rampage."

The general manager said that the vandals wrote crude graffiti on the shed doors and on the outside of the club's containers.

One message on the shed door reads: "F*** yer tent and mats."

Carole added that the "unfair damage amounts to around £400-£500".

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 9pm on Wednesday, 16 June, 2021, police received a report of vandalism at Prestonpans Infant School.

"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."

The Prestonpans After School Club staff are currently reviewing CCTV footage.

Anyone with information should contact the police on 101, or the club on 07399 613108.
