WORK on a new extension at Ross High School in Tranent is progressing well, with steelwork now being erected.

Building work began at the school in March and will be undertaken in three phases.

Part of the plans include a classroom extension with a new social area and dedicated spaces for art, business studies, IT and modern languages.

Also planned is the creation of new drama and science rooms, enhanced spaces for creative learning support, including a life skills kitchen, and two further extensions comprising a sports hall, changing facilities and PE staff hub.

Development partner Hub South East is delivering the extension, working with contractor Graham Construction Ltd.

Innovate and FES Support Services will undertake internal alterations to the building to improve the function of spaces.

Construction is expected to be completed by summer next year.

An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “The erection of the steel frame is an exciting stage in the extension project as it gives a good idea of the size and scale of the project.

The contractors continue to work closely with our teams and the school to minimise any disruption while school remains in session.”
