THE owner of a Musselburgh hair and beauty salon enjoyed a double celebration in the same week.

Nickie Muirhead, 30, from Prestonpans, opened larger premises, took on new staff and also scooped a national business award.

She launched Nickie’s Hair, Beauty & Training on Newbigging five years ago, and three weeks ago expanded the salon into premises next door, formerly occupied by a barber, which had been lying empty for 18 months.

In the same week, the business won best hair and training salon in Scotland at the Corporate Livewire Scotland Prestige Awards 2021/22, with the award ceremony planned for September.

Expansion of the salon has enabled Nickie to recruit another apprentice hairdresser, a junior beauty therapist, new hairdresser, and a self-employed hairdresser and nail technician.

Nickie said: “Before Covid hit, it was always on my mind to open up another salon. My first salon grew within the five years we have been there and we needed more space to expand the business.”

Her first salon is now dedicated to hairdressing, with the new premises operating as the new beauty salon and training academy.

The Corporate Livewire Scotland Prestige Awards 2021/22 recognise small and medium-sized businesses that have proven to be the best in their market in the previous 12 months.
