A RESIDENT at a Musselburgh care home has completed a sponsored walk to help provide nursing care for the terminally ill.

Janet Kerr, 73, a resident at Eskgreen care home, took on a 1,000-step-a-day sponsored walk in March as part of her keep fit regime during the Covid-19 lockdown.

With the aid of a trolley, she exercised by walking up and down the corridors of the East Lothian Council-owned care home on Shorthope Street.

She raised £500, which will be shared equally between Marie Curie and the home’s welfare fund, which provides entertainment for residents.

Janet handed over a cheque to Fiona Busby, a local representative from Marie Curie, who told her that the money would help provide a night shift palliative care nurse.

Janet, who is originally from Glasgow, decided to donate some of the funds to Marie Curie since it is a charity close to her heart, as family members have been affected by cancer.

This was her second 1,000 step-a-day sponsored walk.

Last year, she raised £200 for the Eskgreen Welfare Fund and Cash for Kids, which supports young people affected by poverty, abuse, neglect, life-limiting illness and those who have additional needs.

Janet said she “loved walking for charity”.
