A FORMER pub in Tranent town centre could be given a new lease of life and turned into an Indian restaurant.
A planning application has been submitted by Suret Singh to convert The Plough on Tranent High Street into an Indian restaurant.
He and his brothers run the Bombay Lounge on Dalkeith High Street, with brother Michael excited at the prospect of opening a sister restaurant in East Lothian.
He told the Courier: ""It is something we have been looking forward to for a while but we just needed a premises.
"We've been planning this for about six months now, since last October."
It is hoped, should planning permission be given, that he restaurant will be open by Christmas. It will be called Bombay Brasserie.
The former Plough pub will be fully refurbished if the plans are approved. It is believed that the work will cost more than £100,000.
The new restaurant would have a separate entrance for those using its takeaway service, while the restaurant itself would be able to accommodate about 100 people, with a private dining area also available as well as a beer garden.
There is currently one other Indian restaurant in Tranent, Altaf Khan Restaurant on High Street.
