THE number of coronavirus cases in East Lothian remains low, despite cases spiralling upwards in neighbouring Midlothian, according to the latest data by Public Health Scotland.
Between May 9 and 15, East Lothian recorded only 11 cases of the virus. It is an increase of three in the last 24-hour period, but the figure still remains low overall.
This gives the county a seven-day positive rate per 100,000 population of 10.3.
However, neighbouring Midlothian, following an outbreak in the Pentland area and Penicuik – where a primary school has had to shut due to a surge in cases – has seen its number of cases shoot up to 53 in the same period, giving a seven-day rate per 100,000 population of 57.3.
Five of East Lothian’s 11 cases are in Ormiston. The rest are spread across the county, with every other part of East Lothian recording fewer than two cases each.
No coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded in East Lothian since March 27. Midlothian last recorded a Covid-19 death on April 7.
A total of 60,036 people in East Lothian over the age of 18 have received a Covid-19 vaccine, equalling 70.4 per cent of the population, up to yesterday (Monday).
Of those, 31,390, or 36.8 per cent, have received two doses.
