A DRIVER was found in possession of a controlled drug as police were hosting a pop-up event.

Community officers visited East Saltoun and Gifford on Sunday, with residents raising concerns about speeding and inconsiderate cycling.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said that officers also carried out speed checks in the area and used cut-out officers, which are designed to encourage drivers to slow down.

The spokesperson added: “A number of warnings were issued in line with Lord Advocate’s Guidelines, five fixed penalty tickets were issued, one summons report and a recorded police warning for possession of a controlled drug.

“Officers will continue to respond to issues highlighted at Community and Police Partnership (CAPP) meetings and those raised by residents.”

Meanwhile, “a number” of drivers have been warned by police after a speed check outside a Haddington school.

Community officers were joined by the East Lothian Parking Crew to spread the message of road safety on the town’s West Road on Monday morning.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “The Compass School welcomed the presence and mentioned the considerable difference in speeding outside the school as a result.”
