A BUSINESS supplying natural ingredients for food and drink production throughout the world has been given the royal seal of approval.

Haddington’s PureMalt Products Ltd is one of 205 organisations across the UK to receive the Queen’s Award for Enterprise this year.

The family business was established in 1972 by the Turner family and produces natural ingredients for the global food and beverage industries.

The good news was revealed last Thursday, with PureMalt, which employs nearly 100 people, specifically recognised for its excellence in international trade, distributing products to more than 70 countries globally.

Bruce Turner MBE, chairman and managing director of the business off Haddington’s Whittingehame Drive, paid tribute to the workforce.

He said: “We are humbled to be honoured with this prestigious award.

“Competing in global markets requires high levels of competency in all functions of the business.

“It is wonderful recognition for the talented efforts of our team, without whom this accolade would not have been possible.

“I am very proud of the wider PureMalt family today!”

Last week saw the business’s historic building restored to its former glory, when a copper pagoda was craned into place on top of the premises.

The previous pagoda was damaged during a roof fire in May 1946.

Now in its 55th year, the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are the most prestigious business awards in the country, with winning businesses able to use the esteemed Queen’s Awards emblem for the next five years.

Applications for Queen’s Awards for Enterprise 2022 opened on Saturday.
