MORE bins could be added around Haddington’s skate park in recognition of the success of the facility.

The skate park, on the town’s Whittingehame Drive, has proven increasingly popular with youngsters.

Ian Clark contacted the Courier and said he had spent a day supervising his grandchildren at the facility.

But, he said, it was “spoilt by an overflowing litter bin which either has not been emptied recently or is totally inappropriate for the volume of rubbish created by the large number of youngsters using this excellent facility”.

Mr Clark noted there were youngsters using the nearby football pitch who had tried to dispose of empty bottles of water but were unable to fit them in the bin.

He added: “It was blowing about and kids were wanting to put stuff in the bin but they could not.”

He called on East Lothian Council to provide more bins to ensure litter was disposed of appropriately.

A spokeswoman for the local authority said: “There are a number of bins in and around the vicinity of Whittingehame Drive that people can use for disposing of their personal litter.

“It is encouraging to see the skate facility being so well used and we are grateful for this feedback and will consider the location, size and amount of bins in the location highlighted.”
