TWO Musselburgh churches have been busy supporting local people with donations of food during the Covid-19 crisis.

Musselburgh Baptist Church opens its foodbank every Thursday morning between 10am and noon, while St Andrew’s High Church members have been helping out East Lothian Foodbank.

Ross McNab, assistant pastor at the baptist church, said it was “amazing” that the congregation was back together meeting in person since the end of March, adding that the church wanted to extend “a warm welcome to our wider community to come join us”.

He added: “We are meeting together every Sunday and currently hold three services at 9am, 10.30am and noon. Each service lasts approximately one hour and contains a mixture of music, teaching and prayer.

“To help us follow current guidelines and maintain a safe environment, booking is required. To book a seat, please get in touch via info@musselburghbaptist.org or message us through our Facebook page (@musselburghbaptist), where we also livestream our 10.30am service.”

The Rev Dr Leslie Milton, minister at St Andrew’s High Church, said: “We have had a particular focus on supporting East Lothian Foodbank throughout the pandemic and members were active in Resilient Musselburgh while it was operating.

“Our morning worship is at 11am in church and on Facebook. We hold an additional service on a Tuesday afternoon once a month for those who are unable to come out in the morning.

“We have a weekly coffee morning and occasional discussion groups on Zoom. We are now livestreaming the services. We are also able through Facebook and the weekly email to include people who find it hard to get to church. The weekly email with the full service and the livestream services will continue even after all restrictions are lifted.

“We are surprised and delighted by the way many older people have embraced technology and social media.”
