NEWS that one of Scotland’s greatest pop legends has been booked for North Berwick’s Fringe by the Sea will make you wanna shout!

In 1969, she was part of a four-way tie winner of that year’s Eurovision Song Contest with her song Boom Bang-a-Bang, and in 2015 she wowed young crowds when she appeared at the Glastonbury Festival.

Also booked for Fringe by the Sea this year is perennial favourite Eddi Reader, former lead singer with Fairground Attraction who released her acclaimed solo album The Songs of Robert Burns in 2003.

Comedy fans will get their fill at the festival with a mixed bill comprising Ed Byrne, Jo Caulfield and Larry Dean, with host Barry Castagnola, on August 10.

Headliner Ed (pictured below, by Roslyn Gaunt) had a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2019, while Jo had East Lothian audiences rolling in the aisles when she appeared at Fringe by the Sea in 2014 and 2016.

Rory Steel, Fringe by the Sea director, said: “To have not one but two of Scotland’s greatest female singers, as well as Ed Byrne, appear this year is such a coup.

“It demonstrates how Fringe by the Sea has evolved from a small weekend festival in 2008 to an event that attracts major acts to come and perform in North Berwick.”

Tickets for these shows will be available from 9am today (Thursday).

Fringe by the Sea, which runs from August 6 to 15 this year, has already booked a number of big-name acts including Basement Jaxx, Janey Godley, Huey Morgan, Peat & Diesel, The Blues Band, Irvine Welsh, Gail Porter and The Poozies.

To address Covid rules and guidelines, the festival will make use of new spaces across the town, with outdoor auditoriums (mostly covered, sideless marquees and stretch tents) enabling social distancing for audiences of up to 500 people.
