A NEW Covid-19 testing centre for people with no symptoms opens its doors in Musselburgh tomorrow (Friday).

Based in Stoneyhill Community Centre, people will be able to go along for a test from noon tomorrow.

Normal operating hours for the centre will be 11am to 6pm, Tuesday to Saturday each week.

No appointments are necessary and  any East Lothian residents with no Covid symptoms can go along.

Sharon Saunders, East Lothian Council’s head of communities, said: “The launch of this new facility for the people of East Lothian is another significant step in helping build on progress to suppress the spread of Covid-19 across our communities and move to an even less restrictive way of life.

“It’s great news that more and more people have been receiving vaccinations. But the reality is that Covid-19 does still present a significant risk and, it’s possible to have and be spreading the virus without knowing it.

“Getting tested – even if you’ve received your vaccination – means you can find out if you are positive and take immediate action to stop the spread of the virus to others by self-isolating.

“Please do your bit to help to reduce transmission of the virus.”

Ms Saunders stressed that the centre was only for people who had no symptoms of the virus; anyone with any of the main symptoms – a fever (high temperature), a new, continuous cough, or loss of taste and/or smell – should book a test at a different site via the NHS website.
