THE DunBear sculpture on the outskirts of Dunbar will light up this evening (Wednesday) to mark John Muir’s birthday.
The naturalist and conservationist was born in the East Lothian town before moving with his family to America.
There, he became a central figure in the formation of the US National Park system.
Muir was born in 1838 and died aged 76 on Christmas Eve 1914, with the sculpture, between the A1 and Dunbar’s Asda store, lit up blue and white to mark his birthday.
The sculpture was unveiled in November 2019 and was named DunBear by Emily Hotchkiss, of Dunbar Grammar School.
The work of art was created by renowned Scottish artist Andy Scott, who is also responsible for the Kelpies, near Falkirk.
