POLICE officers from Musselburgh have been clamping down on the continued illegal use of off-road motorbikes in the area of Smeaton Shaw Farm and Smeaton Substation, near Whitecraig.
The Musselburgh Community Policing Team, along with specialist resources including quad bikes and traffic officers, have been deployed over recent weekends as part of an initiative to target offenders.
A male driver was cautioned and charged for allegedly having no insurance, and a stolen motorbike was recovered.
Constable Robert Stewart, from the Musselburgh Community Policing Team, said: “I understand people wishing to partake in motorsport; however, this must be done in a safe and legal manner.
“No permission has been given to use the land in question and we will continue to patrol the area and deal with any criminality accordingly.”
Meanwhile, police are making enquiries into the theft of bicycles from sheds in Musselburgh.
They were stolen from Mayfield Park and there was also an attempted break-in to a shed at Mayfield Place.
The incidents took place on Monday, April 5.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Our enquiries into this series of thefts are ongoing and we are following all available lines of enquiry, including examining CCTV. Anyone with information can call 101.”
