A TEEPEE tent will be bought to help youngsters at West Barns Primary School enjoy outdoor learning.

The school, which has more than 100 pupils, has been given £2,500 to buy the tent to allow more outdoor learning, as well as the development of a food growing and biodiversity area.

The grant, from Community Windpower and BeGreen’s Covid-19 crisis fund, will also be used to increase the number of play items.

Diane Wood, community benefits director at Community Windpower, highlighted the importance of youngsters learning outdoors.

She said: “The amount of teaching and learning time spent outside means primary schools need all the support they can get to ensure they have a safe environment for children to learn in.

“Our fund is designed to help schools and other organisations ensure they can support local people, providing the resources required to ensure pupils’ physical and mental wellbeing is catered for, and also adhere to the Government’s guidance around distancing, sharing of space and resources, and access to well-ventilated spaces.

“Returning to school is vital for the wellbeing and education of children, and the positive stimulating activity planned by West Barns Primary School sounds very exciting.

“While the Covid-19 pandemic has negatively impacted children, it’s lovely to see how it’s acted as a catalyst for staff at West Barns Primary to plan and deliver high-quality teaching and learning experiences using the school grounds.

“This is why we didn’t hesitate when West Barns Primary School explained what they were planning to do with the funding.”
