DOUBLE world boxing champion Josh Taylor has vowed to visit a teenager battling leukaemia after unifying his division.

Josh will step into the ring with Jose Ramirez for the most important fight of his career on May 22.

He already holds the WBA and IBF titles, with his American opponent currently holding the WBC and WBO belts.

Josh, 30, took time out of his busy training schedule this week to speak to pupils from his former secondary school, Preston Lodge High School.

Among those Josh chatted to was Aidan Hogg, who was given the shock diagnosis last month.

The 15-year-old Preston Lodge pupil is currently undergoing treatment in Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Children and Young People.

In an online chat, the duo discussed how Aidan’s treatment was going.

Josh then told the smiling teenager: “After the fight, if I can, if I am allowed, we will come and see you.

“I will give you a signed glove and a t-shirt and things like that.

“I’ll come in and see you.”

Aidan’s mum, Emma Davidson, thanked Josh for taking the time to chat with her son.

She said: “It was so nice for Josh to do that.

“Aidan’s face just lit up when he said he would come in and see him.

“He was over the moon.

“Aidan just seems so laid back about everything but that is just Aidan.

“The singer Callum Beattie has done a song, Warrior, for him and he has offered to come in and see him when it is possible as well.

“It’s just really nice that people are being there for him.”

Aidan, who lives in Musselburgh, had been feeling unwell towards the end of February and complaining of a sore back.

Initially, doctors thought he had a kidney infection but a few nights later he was struggling to walk and was taken to Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

It was there that the teenager, who has brothers Ryan (20), Keegan (10) and 23-month-old Robbie, as well as sister Nicole (16) and step-siblings Calvin (23), Nicole (14), Lewis (10), Shea (10), Frankie (8) and Indie (1), was diagnosed with leukaemia.

Now, he is getting ready to undergo his second round of chemotherapy.

In the short video, he tells the Commonwealth Games gold medal winner “it’s really gone quite quick”.

He said: “Time is flying in here; it doesn’t feel like a month.”

Taylor, who grew up in Prestonpans and now lives in Haddington, become a world champion in May 2019 with a points victory over Ivan Baranchyk. The IBF champion then defeated Regis Prograis in the final of the World Boxing Super Series to add the WBA World Light Welterweight title to his collection.

Victory over Ramirez in Las Vegas would make Taylor the undisputed champion of the weight division.
