A PARROT that lives in a Musselburgh park has been reported missing after a hole was cut in her aviary and she was said to have been stolen.

Pollyanna is a well-known feature of Lewisvale Park, with the aviary on the site of the former greenhouse and nursery in a walled garden being her home for the past two or three years.

The grey and green quaker parrot is nine years old and was handed in by a member of the public.

It is the job of Adam Gordon to look after the Pollyanna and the other birds in the aviary, which are budgies and canaries.

He left at about 4pm on Wednesday and arrived as usual to feed her at about 8am on Thursday morning when he noticed she was missing.

He then noticed the hole in the cage which appears to have been caused by someone cutting into the wire fencing with pliers (see image below).

Adam said that someone has cut the hole and either stolen the bird or let her out to cause trouble, and as Pollyanna’s was the only cage affected he thinks it was a targeted attack.

The police have been informed and those with any information are asked to contact them.

Adam described Pollyanna as a “friendly bird” who enjoys interacting with the children who come and see her.

He has been able to repair the damage caused to the fence but is hoping that she is returned soon.
