FLY-TIPPING at a popular viewpoint has been branded “disgusting”.

Stuart McHardy lives in Fisherrow and walks along Birsley Brae, near Tranent, regularly to enjoy the views across the Firth of Forth.

The 73-year-old, who moved from Edinburgh to Musselburgh two years ago, was walking along the route on Tuesday, March 23, when he came across a massive pile of rubbish which had been left there.

The pile of what appears to be builders’ rubbish contained items such as parts of windows and doors and felt.

All were dumped on the road at Birsley Brae, near Fa’side Castle.

The site of the fly-tipping is about 300 yards west of Tranent.

Mr McHardy said: “They tipped out what appeared to be a lot of builders’ stuff, it looks like it’s come from a building site.

“It’s quite disgusting.

“There’s been some other stuff there before but nothing like this.

“Birsley Brae is a beautiful place and has the best view in East Lothian, so it is a shame things have been dumped here in this way.

“It’s very ignorant.”

The rubbish has since been removed.

An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “If anyone witnessed or has any information about the materials dumped, which appear to be from a house renovation, they should contact the council’s safer communities team (01875 612818) or Police Scotland.

“Householders having work carried out at their homes need to ensure that the contractor has the appropriate licensing to dispose of materials at registered sites.”
