CONCERNS have been raised after youths were spotted on the roof of a bowling club in Tranent.

The issue was raised at a meeting of Tranent and Elphinstone Community Council last month.

Youths have been spotted climbing on the roof of the East Lothian Co-operative Bowling Club on Blawearie Road by neighbours.

They are said to be smoking when they are on the club’s roof.

The youths are said to be able to climb up due to the placement of a unit on the side of the bowling club building.

From there, they are also said to be climbing onto the roofs of neighbouring buildings.

The issue has not been reported to the police but those at the bowling club and Tranent and Elphinstone Community Council raised concerns over potential injuries.

Alex Borthwick, from the bowling club, said: “We’ve tried to get rid of them but, due to the [coronavirus] restrictions, we are not at the club every day so it is hard to keep track of them.”

He said that the incidents were “dangerous” and was worried about potential falls and injuries from those climbing on the roof as it was “quite a drop”.
