THE first female headteacher in Musselburgh Grammar School’s history will take on the role this summer.

Jodie Hannan has been named the successful candidate following a recruitment campaign.

She is currently headteacher at Drummond Community High School in Edinburgh – a post she has held for nearly five years.

Ms Hannan will take up her new job at Musselburgh at the start of the new school session in August.

She succeeds Colin Gerrie, who announced in January that he was the preferred candidate for the post of head of secondary at Greenfield International School, Dubai.

Mr Gerrie, who took over the helm at the Grammar six years ago, will leave at the end of June.

An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “Following a successful recruitment campaign, we are pleased that Jodie Hannan will be joining Musselburgh Grammar School as its new headteacher.

“Ms Hannan brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the role and we look forward to her joining the school in August 2021.”

Before her time at Drummond High School, Ms Hannan was a depute head for several years at Dunfermline High School.

In a statement, Gaynor Allen and Andrew Horrell, co-chairs at MGS Parent Council, said: “We are delighted with the appointment of Jodie Hannan, and feel she is an excellent person to take the school forward.

"Ms Hannan shares the school’s vision and values and we are confident she will make her own mark on the school.

"We are also very excited that Musselburgh Grammar School will have its first female headteacher and feel very strongly that Ms Hannan is the very best fit for the school, including pupils and parents/carers and staff, and will work well with the wider community.”
