EVERYTHING from friendly frogs to a rack of edible pool balls featured in Knox Academy students’ culinary creations.

The Haddington secondary school held its first ever bake-off contest, with pupils and staff all encouraged to put forward their tasty treats.

Mrs Cochrane and Ms Donald from the school’s home economics department had the tough task of picking out winners for each year group and a staff champion.

Sue Cook, headteacher at the school, congratulated each of the winners, who will receive flour from Mungoswells as their prizes.

She said: “It was really fun running this competition and we got so many entries it took the staff a whole afternoon to wade through them and decide the winners – a really fun way to engage our community during lockdown.”

Winners: Meadowpark: Haakon Christiansen – Biscoff billionaire traybake; S1: Zac Wishart – chocolate and caramel ridiculous cake; S2: Amiee Walker – pool balls; S3: Ivy Briggs – frog cake; S4: Anna Wood – Harry Potter The Monster Book of Monsters; S5: Sally Greenshields – birthday cake; S6: Alistair McKinlay – pizza; and staff: Maura Maloney – sourdough foccacia.
