PEOPLE can find out more about Scotland’s saints, as well as some of their links to East Lothian, thanks to a virtual tour.

Alasdair Northrop, a professional tourist guide and member of the Scottish Tourist Guide Association, will be following in the footsteps of Scotland’s saints, sharing some extraordinary tales in the process.

Based in North Berwick, Alasdair, a blue badge tourist guide, said that the tour would include some local East Lothian links because of the county’s connections with St Baldred, St Andrew and St Cuthbert.

His virtual tour takes place next Friday (March 5) at 8pm.

Alasdair said: “The story of Scotland’s saints is a fascinating one, with St Andrew helping to put Scotland on the world map.

“There are many others such as St Columba who, in the sixth century, set up a monastery on the beautiful island of Iona which is once again a major centre of pilgrimage.

“He was also the first person in recorded history to encounter the Loch Ness Monster!”

He will also be digging down into the history of Scottish saints and showing some beautiful locations on both mainland Scotland and a number of islands.

Alasdair said that a lot of his colleagues were completing virtual tours on Zoom to both keep their skills sharp and continue to earn an income.

He added: “Last year, I lost all my bookings and things are very much up in the air for 2021, though I am hoping for the best.”
