A TRANENT man who breached a court bail order banning him from contacting a woman in the town has been jailed for two months.

Gordon Whyte, of Fleets Road, was ordered not to approach or contact the woman and not to enter Muirpark Terrace as part of his bail conditions concerning an alleged separate incident when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month.

But following the court hearing, Whyte repeatedly attempted to contact the woman by telephone and was seen within the street on occasions between January 9 and 13.

The 50-year-old was arrested on January 13 and appeared at the city court the following day, where he pleaded guilty to the offence.

Whyte was back in the dock last Wednesday, where Sheriff John Cook sentenced him to two months in custody.

The sheriff also issued Whyte with a five-year non-harassment order banning him from contacting the woman and from entering the street in Tranent.
