VANDALS have targeted greenhouses at Sanderson’s Wynd Primary School, causing hundreds of pounds of damage.

In a post on social media, headteacher Lynsey Blair expressed her sadness at finding the devastation at the Tranent school.

The post said: “So sad to find our greenhouses have been vandalised. They are such a valuable and well-used learning space. We will need lots of help to repair them.”

The greenhouses are used by all school pupils as part of their outdoor learning; plants including tomatoes are grown in them and picked for use in the youngsters’ meals.

Children also used the area as an observation spot for birds and wildlife.

Mrs Blair said: “The greenhouses are part of our outdoor classroom area, which is really, really well-used by the whole school community, and it was actually funded by our parent council.

“We’ve not been using it as much during the lockdown period but we noticed tools scattered over the grass area so we went round and checked and found panels of the greenhouse had been smashed, the furniture had been smashed, the tools have been thrown around.

“It’s really very sad. I know how important that area is for the staff and for the children.”

The incident has been reported to the East Lothian Council anti-social behaviour team.
