FOUR county restaurants have been highlighted in a prestigious list.

The Michelin Guide recognises the best restaurants the length and breadth of the country.

Four in East Lothian were included in the guide: Creel Restaurant, Dunbar; Osteria, North Berwick; and Gullane’s La Potinière and The Bonnie Badger.

The Michelin Guide says of Creel Restaurant, which was recognised with The Michelin Plate: “The experienced chef creates good value, full-flavoured dishes using seafood fresh from the adjacent harbour.”

La Potinière was also awarded The Michelin Plate, which recognises good food. The guide notes: “An icon in the Scottish restaurant industry, this sweet little restaurant is run in a very personal way by owners Mary and Keith, who share the cooking.”

Osteria, on North Berwick High Street, was the third county restaurant recognised with the accolade.

The guide reads: “The name belies the appearance of this smart family-run restaurant but it does conjure up the right image of the food: honest, ‘nonna-style’ dishes that are authentically Italian to the core.”

Finally, The Bonnie Badger, which is run by Tom and Michaela Kitchin, received the Bib Gourmand, which recognises restaurants offering “exceptionally good food at moderate prices”.

The guide reads: “The bar remains the hub, while the dining room offers a menu of refined, boldly flavoured pub classics.”

Councillor John McMillan, East Lothian Council’s spokesperson for economic development, said: “To be recognised by one’s peers is always welcome, and to be included in such a well-known list as Michelin marks a signal achievement for our local establishments.

"They have put East Lothian on the map and I know that many will like me be looking forward to visiting and enjoying some of the best of East Lothian’s food and drink as soon as we safely can.”
