A TRIAL aimed at creating safe access around Fisherrow harbour is expected to start soon.
One of the priorities of the Fisherrow Harbour and Seafront Association (FHSA) is making the seafront area more pedestrian-friendly, so barriers will be installed to see how this will work before a more permanent solution is put in place.
The group posted on social media: “We now have an opportunity to work with East Lothian Council to trial some changes to pedestrian access.
“We’re installing some barriers to separate pedestrians from cars, creating a safe and continuous walkway along the prom and in front of the harbour.
“We can’t do it all at once with the equipment that is available to us but we’d really like feedback about the changes so that we can find a good balance.
“The plan is to first see how this works before investing in a more permanent solution.”
The group is ready to answer questions about the initiative and is also keen to receive comments or suggestions about the trial. People can air their views by emailing safe-promenade@fhsa.org.uk
Comments have flowed into the FHSA Facebook page; one local resident said: “There are far too many cars driving right up to the bollards… it would be quite good to get some cycle lane type markings along the prom, too.”
