With Robert Burns Night fast approaching us, we have decided to conjure up a list of some of the most popular and delicious Scottish meals that you can enjoy this Burns day.

Whether you are Scottish or not, hosting your very own Burns Supper can be a lot of fun.

At the end of the day, who doesn’t love to celebrate while singing along to some classic Scottish tunes and tucking into some hearty grub.

Haggis Neeps and Tatties

Starting off with the classic, haggis neeps and tatties, you simply can’t celebrate Burns night without this traditional Scottish recipe.

With the creamy mashed potatoes and sweet swede there is so much to love about this dish.

The main part of the meal would of course be the haggis, a famous preparation like black pudding in texture, made from sheep’s lung, liver, and heart, flavoured with spices and onions.

Mince and Tatties

Another much loved Scottish meal, is mince and tatties, a cheap and cheerful dish, perfect for the cold winter days.

With some mouth-watering beef mince, two small onions, a couple of carrots and some Bisto gravy, you can make the tastiest mince that you and all the family will love.

Don’t forget about the smooth and heart-warming mashed potatoes, buttered to perfection, and complementing the mince perfectly.

You can complete this traditional dish with some tasteful vegetables to brighten up your plate.

East Lothian Courier:

Stovies

Nothing beats a steaming hot plate of stovies on a frosty January night.

Although there are many different recipes, every one turns out to be scrumptious.

Traditionally made with potatoes, slice sausage, onions and turnip, this dish is something the whole family can enjoy, and if you want to make it even healthier, you can add some more veggies to the pot.

Cranachan

With a sweet raspberry puree, folded into cream, flavoured with honey and topped off with whiskey and toasted oatmeal – what could be more delicious?

A Cranachan is a very quick and easy dessert to make and will round off your Burns night perfectly.

Easily made in just three steps, each ingredient complements the next and is served best when it is slightly chilled.

To top it off drizzle some honey over your little bowl of perfection.

Scottish Shortbread

Finally, the delectable Scottish shortbread is a sweet treat loved my many.

Even if you have never baked anything in your life, you will be able to make the family some tasty shortbread, with untroubled ease.

Most commonly made with butter, caster sugar and plain flour, these soft and buttery biscuits are the perfect sweet treat to please your pallet on burns night.
