LONGNIDDRY & District Rotary Club has presented special awards to five local groups in recognition of their “outstanding efforts” supporting communities during the coronavirus lockdown.

The club’s president Tom Shearer, assisted by president-elect Charles Simpson, presented the Rotary Service Recognition Awards to groups in the Preston Seton Gosford ward.

Mr Shearer said: “This is the first time the club has presented such recognition awards and I can’t think of any better-deserving initiatives to be recognised by the club.

“All the recipients of the award, representing the many individuals who gave of their time in supporting people in need throughout the pandemic, are owed such gratitude for all their efforts and it is right that this is recognised and celebrated.”

The Rotary awards went to:

  • John Hall, Preston Lodge High School craft design and technology department, for the initiative in designing and manufacturing personal protective equipment (PPE);
  • Brian Weddell and Debbie Reynolds, Prestonpans Resilience Group, for the outstanding level of support to the community throughout lockdown;
  • Bryan Hickman, Cockenzie & Port Seton Resilience Group, for the outstanding level of support to the community throughout lockdown;
  • Abigail Morrison and Sheila Jamieson, Longniddry Resilience Group, for the outstanding level of support to the community throughout lockdown;
  • Elaine Clarke, Longniddry, for the design and manufacture of scrubs and face coverings, with surplus proceeds being donated to Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS).
