TRANENT Juniors' Scottish Cup adventure came to an end at East Fife this afternoon.
The Belters, who had twice beaten teams from a higher league to reach the second round in their debut in the historic competition, dared to dream of an even more famous triumph after taking a third-minute lead at the Bayview Stadium courtesy of a long-range Steven Thomson free-kick.
Tranent looked set to hold their lead until half-time against the Fifers – who play three divisions above them in Scottish League One – only to be stung by two goals just before the break from Scott Agnew and Craig Watson, turning a 1-0 lead into a 2-1 deficit.
And two quickfire second-half goals from Agnew to complete his hat-trick ended Tranent's hopes of reaching the third round, with Kevin Smith adding some extra gloss to make the final score 5-1 to East Fife.
