KIND-HEARTED pupils at Musselburgh Grammar School held a sponsored silence, raising £133 to help provide foodbank support for families in need at Christmas.

The initiative, organised by youngsters in S4 as part of a personal development community project, was backed by fellow pupils, teachers and parents.

Each pupil had to choose a day to remain silent and they were monitored closely by fellow pupils and teachers. They also had to spend their break and lunch time being silent, with all requests having to be made in writing.

The funds raised were donated to the Trussell Trust, which supports a network of foodbanks providing emergency food to people in crisis. The charity also campaigns for change to end the need for foodbanks in the UK.
