DURING the festive period, I know that many may struggle with their mental health, and particularly this year where many of us are isolated in trying to do the right thing and keep others safe.

I would like to remind everyone reading this that you are not alone – there is always someone to reach out to. You can call Samaritans on 116 123 or Breathing Space on 0800 83 85 87 if you feel overwhelmed, lonely or just need someone to talk to.

I would also encourage as many of my constituents as possible to reach out and be kind to those around us. Now is the time to drop a note through your neighbour’s door asking if they need any help. We should donate to foodbanks where we can and think of those who are more in need than us.

As best as we can, we need to try to appreciate and enjoy the smaller things this year and remain hopeful that soon this will all pass, and we will be reunited again.

I would like to encourage everyone to not be tempted into panic buying – this will only make matters worse. We need to think about others and make sure that everyone has access to the essential items that they need.

Although this lockdown period will undoubtedly be hugely difficult, I hope that coming together and showing each other compassion and kindness will make this period that little bit easier.
